65th Anniversary of the Liberation


Due to the 65th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi Auschwitz Concentration Camp,
the National Museum will be closed for visitors at 27th of Junuary 2010.

We would like to invite you to take part in the ceremonies commemorating the 65th anniversary of the liberation of the German Nazi Auschwitz Concentration Camp by the Red Army.

Main events

27th January 2010 — Former Auschwitz II-Birkenau Concentration Camp

  • 2.30 pm —  Main ceremonies will be held in a heated tent (located in the so-called BIIf sector) put up specially for that purpose.  On account of limited space passes will be required. Those without passes are requested to enter through the former women’s camp (the so-called BI sector). The participants staying outside the tent will be able to watch the ceremony on a big screen mounted specially on this occasion.
  • 4 pm — Closing of  official ceremony and march with candles to the Monument to the Victims     
  • 4.20 pm — Paying homage to the Victims and prayer at the Monument in Birkenau

Tuesday, 21st January, 2010

  • 6 pm — Concert, "In Memory of Auschwitz Victims," at St. Joseph the Worker Church in Oświęcim

Wednesday, 27th January, 2010 

  • 9 am — Conference of Ministers of Education (Center for Dialogue and Prayer)

  • 12.00 — Mass at Divine Mercy Church in Oswiecim (Rotmistrz W. Pilecki Subdivision)

  • 12.30 — 1.30 pm – Opening of the Russian exhibition on the Liberation of Auschwitz Concentration Camp (Block 14, former Auschwitz I) /to be confirmed/. Passes required.

Information for those interested in taking part in the ceremonies

Due to unpredictable number of Auschwitz survivors, official delegations and guests of honor we cannot guarantee that everyone wishing to participate in the ceremonies will obtain a pass. Please, contact us.

Patronage

The ceremonies commemorating the liberation of Auschwitz Concentration Camp are held under the honorary patronage of His Excellence President of the Polish Republic, Lech Kaczyński.


Organizers

The organizer of the event is the International Auschwitz Council along with the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum. Moreover, the Conference of Ministers of Education is co-organized by the Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Poland.
